We decided to take a night-drive safari because it sounded like fun, and it wasn’t too expensive. Also, at night a lot of different animals come out than those you can spot during the day.
It was certainly fun, driving around in the cool night air, in an open vehicle, taking turns shining spotlights into the bushes to spot the animals out foraging under the cover of darkness.
According the the older gentleman who sat behind us, our 90 minute drive wasn’t as full of animal sightings as a night drive usually is. Still, we saw a decent amount, we thought: 3 hippos high-tailing it into the bushes when the light stopped on them, a lot of springhares, two owls, something in a tree (maybe a bushbaby?), something like a jackal maybe, and a couple of bull elephants in a stream.
We finished off the night with 4 hyenas, playing around the culvert where they spend their days sleeping.
